Ground school training is the stepping stone to any CPL Program. Students must be grounded well before they’re allowed to fly and this important and mandatory training is imparted in classrooms, laboratories, workshops and even on the airport apron where aircraft are parked.
Ground school training covers all theoretical subjects required for flying:
- - aircraft mechanics,
- - air navigation systems,
- - air meteorology,
- - technical general
- - technical specific,
- - radio telephony theory
- - radio telephony practical,
- - aviation law,
- - communication procedures,
- - human performance and limitations.
Ground school helps to create clear concepts and lay a very strong theoretical foundation in every student. The theory of principles of flight, aviation regulations, weather patterns and other crucial aspects of aviation are ingrained into the student pilot - so that by the time they’re flying solo, all these concepts are second nature to their professional skills.
Ground Training = minimum 350 hours.
Flight training is the most crucial aspect of any CPL Program. Flight training usually commences in our state-of-the-art simulators which have wide views and real-time display of terrains and airports. This allows the student to get the feel of a flight without actually leaving the simulator room.
Students then quickly move into flying actual aircrafts. In the beginning, students are always accompanied by their instructor - so those are categorised as dual. When an instructor is confident that a student is ready, the student is sent on his/her first solo flight. Once that is successful - a combination of dual & solo flights continue. Students are made to do short sorties, take cross country solo flights, practise difficult manoeuvres, practice take-offs and landings in great and adverse weather, work on their navigation techniques, role play emergency procedures and other essential flying skills and oh, so much more!
- - Simulator Training = minimum 20 hours
- - Aircraft Training = minimum 200 hours
Aviation English Language Proficiency (AELP) Training and Testing Programs are a mandatory aspect of all pilot training (CPL & PPL). CPL or PPL licences cannot be either issued or renewed without the requisite AELP endorsement from a DGCA approved Centre.
Carver Aviation has been a DGCA approved Training and Testing Centre since 2021 - and has an excellent reputation for employing best practices in the field of training, assessments and standardisation.
The AELP 30 hours training module is mandatory for all aspiring pilots globally. At Carver Aviation, the training is offered online as well as offline. The course covers aviation specific phonetics, phraseology, pronunciation and comprehension. Meaningful interactions in context to aviation are taught, practised and continually assessed until proficiency is achieved.
Scoring is on a scale of 1 to 6 - with the minimum acceptable “passing” score being 4 and the highest score being 6. A score of 3 or less is below standard and the candidate is usually advised to get more intense training and then come back for a retest.
All language proficiency guidelines are laid out by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and help define both, the training patterns as well as the test format and assessment criteria.
- - AELP Training Program = minimum 30 hours.
- - AELP Test centres are in Baramati and Mumbai (satellite Centre)
We organise regular guest lectures by industry experts. These lectures are conducted by subject experts, some who are our alumni, all actively engaged with the Aviation Industry. Our objective is to periodically expose our students to a wide variety and a deep pool of skills and experiences, these interactions allow for valuable insights into on ground experiences, everything from special tips to critical technical updates to networking opportunities, useful to students and instructors alike.
After completing the training, you need to pass the written and practical exams administered by the DGCA. The written exams assesses your theoretical knowledge and understanding of aviation concepts, regulations and procedures while the practical exams assesses your ability to apply your knowledge and skills in a real flight scenario. Successful completion of these exams demonstrates your competence and readiness to be a licensed commercial pilot.
Written tests for the theory are conducted by the DGCA, in accordance to their published schedule. Flying tests are conducted periodically, according to the student’s schedule, progress is recorded in accordance with DGCA guidelines. Practical exam for Radio Telephony Restricted License or RTR is conducted by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, as per their published schedule.
Candidate must obtain a medical certificate as notified by the DGCA under Rule 39B from a DGCA approved medical examiner. Aviation is a physically and mentally demanding field, and you must be in good health to ensure the safety of yourself, your passengers, and the aircraft.

DGCA administered written and practical exams for the ground / theory subjects are scheduled and conducted regularly. These are usually digital, written exams that assess a candidate’s theoretical knowledge and understanding of aviation concepts, regulations and procedures.
The DGCA announces / publishes the examination schedule well in advance and candidates can opt for several centres across India to register and take the exam from.
The practical exams, conducted in-flight in real time, assess a candidate’s ability to apply knowledge and skills in an actual flight scenario.
Successful completion of these exams demonstrates a candidate’s competence and readiness to be a licensed commercial pilot.
Flying tests are conducted periodically, by internal and external assessors - according to the student’s schedule and progress. All assessments are recorded in accordance with DGCA guidelines and remain a permanent part of the candidate’s log book.
The Radio Telephony Restricted License or RTR is conducted by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, as per their published schedule.
Aviation English Language Proficiency (AELP) Training (30 hours) is conducted either online or offline at our AELP state of the art language lab. Either way, candidates have access to all the resources and materials at our disposal - to help them develop impeccable language skills.
AELP Testing is a face-to-face test conducted by a panel of three panellists. The tests are scheduled regularly and conducted in Baramati or at our satellite centre in Mumbai.
